About Groundwork
Groundwork is building the AI powered contract intelligence platform for UK construction contractors. Every year, contractors sign contracts containing obligations they don't fully track until it's too late, leading to missed notices, lost entitlements, delayed payments, disputes, and avoidable losses. Groundwork helps commercial teams understand JCT, NEC, SBCC, FIDIC, and bespoke contracts in plain English, with every obligation linked back to the exact clause.
We are an early stage company working closely with contractors and commercial professionals to build a product that genuinely reflects how construction contracts are managed in practice.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Contract Administrator to join us as a part time advisor and help shape the future of contract intelligence for construction.
This role is ideal for someone who has spent years administering construction contracts, issuing and tracking notices, managing variations, maintaining deadline schedules, and keeping the commercial machinery of a project running, and wants to apply that experience to a technology product used across the industry.
You won't be administering projects. You'll be helping us build the system that does.
What You'll Do
- Review how our AI extracts contractual obligations, deadlines, notice periods, and key actions
- Identify where the platform gets contract administration wrong or misses important obligations
- Help us understand how contract administration actually works on busy construction projects
- Define what a genuinely useful deadline and obligation tracker should contain
- Test the platform against live contract packages, including schedules, appendices, amendments, and bespoke terms
- Help shape how variations, instructions, CVIs, and compensation events should be captured and tracked
- Identify where records typically break down and what gets missed or reconstructed later
- Work closely with founders, product, and engineering teams to improve the platform

What We're Looking For
Essential:
- 3+ years' experience administering construction contracts in a commercial or contract support role
- Strong practical understanding of JCT and/or NEC contracts
- Hands on experience issuing and tracking contractual notices
- Experience maintaining variation registers, payment cycles, and deadline schedules
- Contractor side or consultancy experience within UK construction
- Ability to explain how contract administration works in practice, not just how the contract says it should work
- Willingness to be direct about what doesn't work
Highly Desirable:
- NEC3 or NEC4 ECC experience, including compensation events and early warnings
- Experience with amended or bespoke client contracts
- Subcontract administration experience
- Claims, adjudication, or dispute resolution exposure
- Experience assembling records for claims or disputes
- Experience across sectors such as civils, rail, water, fit out, residential, or infrastructure

What Success Looks Like
You can quickly identify:
- Which contractual notices actually matter in practice
- Where notice periods and deadlines are most likely to be missed
- What happens when an instruction arrives verbally on site
- Why variation registers drift from reality over the course of a project
- Where contractual records typically break down
- What information is missing when a claim is eventually assembled Most importantly, you understand the difference between how contract administration is supposed to work and how it actually works on a busy project.
The Arrangement
- 2 to 4 days per month, flexible
- Paid at a day rate
- Fully remote
- Direct work with the founding team
- Equity participation available for the right person
- Scope for the role to grow if it works well for both sides
