Contract Backend Software Engineer
RMG is partnering with a growing technology business to secure a Contract Backend Software Engineer for a full-time, hybrid engagement based in London. In this role, your primary objective will be to take immediate technical ownership of core backend services—architecting resilient systems, untangling intricate data flows, and elevating the platform's overall scalability and reliability. If you are an autonomous contractor who excels at transforming architectural requirements into clean, performant services, this project offers an exceptional opportunity to make an immediate, tangible impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and maintain scalable backend services and microservices designed for long-term reliability and performance.
- Design robust internal and third-party RESTful APIs, facilitating seamless integration and smooth inter-service communication.
- Model and optimise relational and document database structures to support evolving product features and data integrity.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional technical teams, including frontend engineers and product stakeholders, to steer architectural decisions.
- Enhance continuous deployment and testing frameworks to safeguard code quality, system observability, and engineering standards.
Reasons to use Rodeo
I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
