Contract C++ Developer – Low Latency / Trading Infrastructure

Location: 100% Remote – UK
Contract: Initial 12 months, with potential extensions
Day Rate: Up to £450 per day
IR35 Status: Outside IR35

The Opportunity

Ocho is partnering with a specialist capital markets technology company to recruit an experienced Contract C++ Developer to work on high-performance trading infrastructure used by financial institutions across the globe.
This is a fully remote opportunity to work on business-critical systems covering market data, trading connectivity, order entry and real-time data processing.
You'll be joining a highly experienced, distributed engineering team, working on technically challenging projects where performance, reliability and scalability are essential.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Designing, developing and optimising high-performance C++ applications
  • Building and maintaining real-time market data systems and feed handlers
  • Developing trading infrastructure, connectivity and messaging components
  • Working extensively with multithreading, concurrency and network programming
  • Identifying performance bottlenecks and improving system throughput and latency
  • Developing reliable, scalable applications within Linux environments
  • Contributing to system architecture, technical design and code reviews
  • Troubleshooting complex production issues and improving overall system performance

What We're Looking For

  • Strong commercial experience developing software in modern C++ (C++11/14/17 or later)
  • Solid Linux development experience
  • Strong understanding of multithreading, concurrency and memory management
  • Experience developing high-performance, low-latency or real-time systems
  • Good knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP and socket programming
  • Experience with performance profiling, debugging and optimisation
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently

Nice to Have

  • Experience within capital markets, electronic trading or financial technology
  • FIX protocol, market data feeds or exchange connectivity experience
  • Knowledge of lock-free programming, shared memory or inter-process communication
  • Python scripting or automation experience
  • Experience with distributed systems and high-throughput messaging platforms

Capital markets experience is not essential. We're equally interested in strong C++ engineers from telecommunications, embedded systems, gaming, aerospace, defence or other performance-critical environments.
