Contract Design Engineer (SolidWorks) IR35 Status: Out
Hourly – Circa £35 DOE
Contract Term – Ad hoc
Location – Remote
Join a leading engineering and visual technology developer specialising in complex water show systems, specialised mechanical components, and bespoke fluid/pipework assemblies.
We are looking for an experienced contract Design Engineer with strong 2D AutoCAD proficiency and expert 3D SolidWorks skills. The core focus of this assignment is converting legacy DWG files into fully parametric 3D models, structural weldments, pipework assemblies, and complete manufacturing production packs with detailed BOMs.

- Convert existing 2D AutoCAD DWG drawings (including legacy, US imperial, and non-isolated CAD files) into fully structured 3D SolidWorks parts and assemblies
- Isolate individual parts from non-standard or cluttered source drawings to construct native SolidWorks geometry
- Generate complete, manufacturing-ready engineering production packs, including Bill of Materials (BOMs)
- Model structural elements such as sheet metal fabrications, box section frames, folded parts, and weldments
- Implement valves, mechanical components, and specialised pipework/fluid lines into master assemblies using correct fit and mating protocols
- Output drawings back into required AutoCAD deliverable formats adhering to established borders and templates

Experiences required:
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks 3D Modelling and AutoCAD 2D
- Demonstrated experience converting 2D DWG files/macros into parametric 3D SolidWorks models and assemblies
- Solid understanding of pipework, structural box section framing, weldments, sheet metal design, and mechanical component integration
- Strong background producing detailed engineering production packs, assembly drawings, and accurate BOMs
- Ability to work with both metric and US imperial measurements across multi-source client drawings
Contractors must provide their own workstation and an active SolidWorks license.
