Contract Electronics Design Engineer - Hardware Redesign

Location: Chichester, West Sussex (Hybrid - approx. 2 days onsite per week)
Duration: 3-4 months
IR35 Status: Outside IR35

We are currently working with an established technology business seeking an experienced Electronics / Hardware Design Engineer for an initial 3-4 month contract sitting outside IR35.

This is an opportunity to get involved in a specialist hardware redesign project, working on existing electronic products that require modernisation due to component obsolescence and evolving technical requirements.

The project is already well underway, with much of the initial design completed. The successful contractor will work closely with the internal R&D team to review, refine and complete the schematic and PCB designs, ensuring the updated hardware is robust, compliant and ready for manufacture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and develop existing electronic schematics and PCB layouts across hardware designs.
  • Redesign and update circuitry to address obsolete components and ensure continued product availability.
  • Work on complex multi layer PCB designs incorporating mixed-signal analogue and digital electronics.
  • Support design changes relating to 2MHz and 4MHz operating frequencies.
  • Apply EMC/EMI design principles to ensure robust hardware performance.
  • Undertake component selection, circuit analysis and design verification.
  • Produce and maintain accurate engineering documentation and manufacturing deliverables.
  • Collaborate with the internal R&D team to resolve technical challenges and progress the designs through to completion.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
