Job Title: Internal Audit Manager – Banking & Capital Markets
Location: London
Duration: 12 months

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Internal Audit Manager to join our robust Internal Audit function, with a dedicated focus on our Banking and Capital Markets operations. This pivotal role is responsible for leading and executing comprehensive internal audits, providing independent assurance over the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and control processes within a complex and highly regulated financial services environment. The successful candidate will play a critical role in safeguarding the organisation's assets, ensuring regulatory compliance, and contributing to the continuous enhancement of our control framework.
Key Responsibilities:

End-to-End Audit Delivery:
- Lead and manage the full lifecycle of internal audit engagements, from initial scoping through to issue validation and reporting, ensuring adherence to the IA methodology and professional standards (e.g., IIA Standards).

Audit Scoping & Planning:
- Conduct risk assessments to identify key areas of focus within banking and capital markets key processes.
- Develop comprehensive audit plans, defining clear objectives, scope, methodology, and resource requirements, aligning with the annual audit plan and regulatory expectations.

Risk and Control Matrix (RCM) Development:
- Design, review, and refine robust Risk and Control Matrices (RCMs) to accurately document business processes, identify inherent risks, and assess the design effectiveness of key controls.

Test Strategy & Execution:
- Formulate and implement effective test strategies to evaluate the operating effectiveness of controls, utilising a combination of substantive testing, analytical procedures, and data analytics.
- Oversee and perform detailed audit testing, ensuring sufficient and appropriate audit evidence is gathered to support conclusions.

Issue Discussions & Stakeholder Management:
- Lead constructive discussions with auditees and senior management regarding audit findings, control deficiencies, and their potential impact.
- Negotiate and agree on practical, value-adding recommendations and management action plans to address identified risks.

Reporting & Communication:
- Prepare clear, concise, and impactful audit reports, executive summaries, and presentations for various stakeholders, including the Audit Committee and senior leadership.
- Ensure audit reports accurately reflect findings, risks, and agreed management actions.

Issue Validation & Follow-up:
- Lead the validation of management's remediation efforts for previously identified audit issues, ensuring that corrective actions have been effectively implemented and sustained.
- Monitor the status of open audit issues and provide regular updates to relevant committees.
- Sounds understanding of banking and capital markets regulatory expectations (good to have)

Continuous Improvement:
- Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of internal audit methodologies, tools, and processes.
Qualifications & Experience:

- Relevant professional qualifications such as ACA, ACCA, CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor), or equivalent are preferred.
Experience:
- 7+ years of progressive experience in internal audit, external audit, or risk management within the banking or capital markets sector.
- Demonstrable experience leading complex audit engagements within a regulated financial services environment.
- Strong understanding of financial products, processes, and risks associated with capital markets activities (e.g., trading, derivatives, fixed income, equities).
Skills:
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex issues clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
- Proficiency in data analytics tools and techniques is an advantage.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
