In house Contract Consultant/Advisor

All UK - hybrid/flexible/remote or office working arrangements available depending on location and circumstances.

Role Context:

The British Council is the UK’s international culture and education organisation. We support peace and prosperity by building connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and countries worldwide.

The role is based in the in-house Contract Management team, which provides expert contract management consultancy, advice, guidance, training and tools to colleagues delivering Cultural Engagement programmes and projects globally in education, culture and the arts.

Ideal candidates will have an understanding and experience of legal and contractual issues and possess excellent attention to detail, communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates should also demonstrate a flexible approach to work and the ability to effectively prioritise competing demands and deadlines.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Contracting and risk management services
    • Provide a responsive, professional and customer-focused contract management advisory service to a range of internal clients/stakeholders to support ongoing commercial opportunities
    • Use in-house template documents to prepare appropriate agreements ensuring that each fully reflects the requirements of the British Council,
    • Answer queries concerning contractual matters including contract review or negotiation from internal clients,
    • Review and negotiate agreements from external parties
    • Check contractual documents and ensure that information is correct and appropriate approvals are in place.
    • Analyse and interpret external contract terms and conditions, advising, operational teams on associated risks and liability.

  • Business Management, Development and Delivery
    • Provide contract management technical input into projects and programmes
    • Comply with systems and procedures that are in place for storage and filing of contractual enquiries and documentation, to ensure an audit trail and compliance with contract retention policy.
    • Be accountable for and manage own time and prioritise workload in a busy environment frequently handling conflicting priorities and timelines;
    • Refer for additional support and guidance if required from other specialist internal teams
    • Assist the Senior Contract Consultants where necessary with more complex agreements and projects.

Further Information:

  • Contract Type – Indefinite
  • Pay Band – 7
  • Salary - £32,381 Gross plus 3,300 London allowance if based in London
  • Benefits - 32 days annual leave, up to 3 days volunteering leave, attractive civil service pension scheme
  • Requirements – candidates applying must have the legal right to work in the UK
