Senior Contracts Lead – Infrastructure & Construction
Commercial & Contracts Team | JSM Group | Potters Bar (Hybrid)
About the Role
At JSM Group, our Commercial & Contracts team delivers critical infrastructure projects across the UK. We’re seeking a Senior Contracts Lead—a commercially astute professional with experience in infrastructure, utilities, or construction—to drive strategic contract management, mitigate risks, and support high-value projects (ranging from £5M–£75M).
This role is central to how we manage contractual risk, align agreements with business goals, and ensure project success. Reporting to the Group Legal Director but embedded within our operational and commercial functions, you’ll act as a trusted advisory voice across negotiation, risk management, and contract lifecycle.
Location: Potters Bar Head Office | Working Model: Hybrid
Scope of Responsibilities
Contract Strategy & Risk Management
- Lead contract strategy and negotiations for high-value infrastructure and utility projects -Advise on and shape commercial agreements, including supplier terms, construction contracts, and NDAs -Identify and mitigate contractual risks early through proactive engagement with internal teams -Provide commercially robust advisory support to project delivery teams on contract interpretation and obligations

End-to-End Contract Lifecycle Management
- Oversee the entire contract lifecycle, from creation of heads of terms to final closeout
- Collaborate with Commercial, Operations, and Finance to drive aligned outcomes
Stakeholder & Dispute Resolution
- Serve as an executive sounding board for live project issues, including dispute avoidance and resolution strategies
- Work closely with supply chain partners, senior leadership, and project teams
Process Improvement & Specialism
- Translate complex legal language into clear, actionable advice for non-legal stakeholders
- Support the development and refinement of commercial contract templates and processes
Essential Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong background in contract and commercial management within infrastructure, utilities, or construction (preferably Quantity Surveying)
- In-depth experience with industry-standard contracts: NEC, JCT, FIDIC
- Proven track record in negotiating and managing high-value (£5M–£75M+), complex project contracts
- Ability to identify, assess, and challenge commercial/legal risks appropriately
Cognitive & Soft Skills
- Solutions-focused mindset that balances operational pragmatism and risk mitigation
- Strong commercial and contractual awareness with experience applying this cross-functionally
- Skilled in interpretation of contract clauses and stakeholder communication (both technical and non-technical)

Dispute & Decision-Making
- Experience in supporting dispute resolution, including negotiation and mediation
Ideal Profile
Seeking a commercial leader with proven expertise—whether from a background as a Commercial Manager or a senior Quantity Surveyor—who is eager to apply their depth of industry understanding to a broader contracts and risk-focused role.
