Role Overview

We are looking for a Contract Manager in our Sustainable Distribution Centre (SDC) in Northampton (NN7 2FR), who is passionate about driving operational excellence, nurturing strong customer relationships, and leading teams with drive and integrity.

The Contract Manager will be responsible for implementation and overall management of new contracts in the SDC site. This would include organizing and managing the operational, commercial, and customer-facing functions of the contracts, in such a manner as to provide the best possible service to the customer, within the economic constraints of the business, and also to adhere to both company and customer quality standards, while maintaining good staff relations and Health & Safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • New Contracts Implementation
    • Develop rollout plans for new customer contracts, including service scope, timelines, resources, and system integration.
    • Coordinate across departments (operations, finance, IT, support) to ensure readiness.
    • Align operations with customer-specific requirements.
  • Customer Service
    • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, supporting organic growth.
    • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual business reviews.
    • Negotiate renewals and annual reviews.
    • Act as key escalation point for customer queries.
    • Share best practices internally and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Operational Control & Finance
    • Manage Profit & Loss for customer accounts, achieving budgetary targets.
    • Oversee financial data flows to strict deadlines.
    • Approve costs and revenues (purchase orders, invoices).
    • Ensure charging and invoicing procedures are followed.
    • Drive profit-enhancing initiatives and cost savings.
    • Support budget building for contracts and collaborate with wider SDC management.
  • Team Leadership
    • Provide training, mentoring, and development opportunities for team members.
    • Maintain accurate organization charts and job descriptions.
    • Communicate business outcomes and expectations clearly.
    • Promote employee engagement and wellbeing initiatives.
    • Ensure fair and consistent management of holidays, absence, performance, and disciplinary processes.
  • Health & Safety and Company Procedures
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures.
    • Lead a robust H&S agenda across the site.
    • Chair monthly H&S meetings with business partners.
    • Ensure equipment checks are compliant.
    • Promote best practice across contracts.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Drive efficiency and customer service improvements.
    • Identify and develop new logistics revenue opportunities.
    • Analyse and improve quality management systems.
    • Promote Kaizen and Right First-Time principles.

What You Will Bring To The Role:

  • Proficient level of general education including written English
  • Extensive management experience, within a warehousing operation.
  • Proven case studies of implementing new contracts
  • Warehouse management professional with broad experience of modern facilities and WMS
  • Experience of managing operations within an automated site
  • Commercial awareness and cost management including budget responsibility and contractual understanding
  • Demonstrates proven history of business improvement through analysis.
  • Previous experience of working within a customer’s premises advantageous.
  • Knowledge & understanding of effective customer & supplier relationship management principles
  • Driving licence (regular travel to the customers’ premises will be required)
  • Proven ability to interface with customers.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • IT – Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Extremely high degree of integrity.
  • Ability to withstand pressure and work to tight deadlines.
  • Strong leader, with good values and work ethic
