Procter Street is resourcing this role on behalf of an established contractor operating across major earthworks and infrastructure projects in the North-West.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Contract Manager to take responsibility for the commercial and contractual management of major earthworks and infrastructure projects.

This is a key position for an individual with strong experience in civil engineering, earthworks, infrastructure or related construction environments. The successful candidate will oversee projects from contract award through to completion, ensuring that contractual obligations, commercial performance, programme and client relationships are effectively managed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take overall responsibility for the contractual and commercial management of assigned earthworks and infrastructure projects.
  • Manage contracts from pre-start through to final account and completion.
  • Lead the commercial management of projects, including variations, valuations, applications for payment, compensation events and final accounts.
  • Review, interpret and administer NEC, JCT or other relevant construction contracts.
  • Identify and manage contractual risks, opportunities and potential claims.
  • Prepare and submit contractual notices, extensions of time and associated supporting information.
  • Work closely with project managers, quantity surveyors, engineers and site teams to ensure projects remain commercially and contractually controlled.
  • Monitor project performance against budgets, programmes and contractual requirements.
  • Manage subcontractor and supplier contracts, including commercial negotiations and performance.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and project stakeholders.
  • Support project teams with contractual advice and dispute avoidance.
  • Ensure accurate project reporting, forecasting and commercial documentation.
  • Assist with the resolution of contractual issues and disputes where required.
  • Contribute to the successful delivery of projects safely, commercially and to programme.

Experience Required

  • Proven experience as a Contract Manager, Project Manager, Commercial Manager or similar within the civil engineering/infrastructure sector.
  • Strong experience working on earthworks, enabling works, highways, utilities, remediation, groundworks or major infrastructure projects.
  • Good knowledge of construction contracts, ideally including NEC.
  • Strong understanding of commercial and contractual procedures.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and client-side relationships.
  • Proven ability to identify contractual risks and maximise commercial opportunities.
  • Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while providing effective support to operational project teams.
  • A relevant construction, commercial or engineering qualification is desirable.
