Contracts Officer (Assets) - Canterbury, Kent

Overview

This is a fantastic Contracts Officer (Assets) job opportunity in Canterbury, Kent. Canterbury City Council is a progressive local authority with an extremely varied stock of both Housing properties and commercial building portfolios.

About the Role

As a Contracts Officer at Canterbury City Council, you will be part of the collaborative Facilities Management team. This role involves end-to-end contract management for externally commissioned contracts across an exciting portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Manage key contracts, including budgetary control, development of delivery plans, and analysis of contract performance.
  • Tender a variety of construction contracts, ensuring procurement activities are legally compliant.
  • Motivate and manage contractors to achieve performance targets.
  • Issue legal notices and payments in line with the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996.
  • Accurately value construction work completed and scrutinize contractor’s interim and final accounts.
  • Answer questions about the delivery of contracts and related compliance instruments.

Working Pattern

  • Primarily home-based with site visits and meetings at council offices/hubs when required.
  • Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays.
  • 37 hours per week.
  • Permanent full-time contract.
  • A full week off over Christmas! Plus 23 days of annual leave, increasing to 28 days after 5 years of service.

Requirements

  • Significant experience of end-to-end contract management within a similar field.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as CIBSE, RICS, IMechE, CIPHE or MIET.
  • A suitable Degree, Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma in a subject that covers Construction Law and/or Contract Law.
  • A full driving licence.
