About The Role

As a Contract Specialist, you'll be responsible for managing high-profile Central Government contracts throughout their lifecycle, ensuring contractual obligations are delivered while protecting and maximising commercial value. Working with customers such as HMRC and the Department for Education, you'll act as the key commercial interface between BT and the customer, building strong stakeholder relationships and driving successful contract outcomes.

You'll oversee contract performance across financial, commercial and governance measures, including P&L management, risk mitigation, margin optimisation, change control, service level management and contract compliance. You'll work closely with customers, finance, legal, service delivery and senior leadership teams to ensure contractual commitments are met while identifying opportunities for growth and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Be Doing

Accountable for the delivery of contracts:

  • Builds a strong relationship with senior customer stakeholders. Is an interface for the customer of the managed contract on all contractual / commercial topics.
  • Assesses and manages mobilisation to in in-life on contractual obligations and assigns internal BT teams to the relevant tasks (including themselves)
  • Monitors and manages the Contract P&L, schedules timely month-end calls with Contract Accountants and others, ensuring revenue/cost accruals and deferrals have been accounted in the same period, developing reports

Delivers change control on the contract and develops opportunities:

  • For the lifetime of a contract, monitors and manages contractual obligations including T&Cs and SLAs; identifies and manages commercial risks
  • Determine effective Change Control: immediately identifies a change to a contractual agreement and ensures this is managed in the defined way/process; involves the appropriate parties such as Account Management and Commercial Finance to progress; triggers WNB process if applicable
  • Manages and reports a Balanced Scorecard of deliverables / analysis on contract performance; uses defined processes and tools to assess and monitor commercial viability and ensures delivery against SLAs
  • Identifies Upsell/Cross-sell Opportunities and hands these to (or works with) Account Management to pursue
  • Champions the maximisation of Commercial Opportunities, including documenting and negotiating disputes, in pursuit of a long-term profitable customer relationship

Operational accountabilities:

  • Independently maintains records for complex decision points, financial performance, service delivery, billing, efficiency of change controls and general support activities in relation to a contract.
  • Ensures timely scheduling of CGR calls, populating CGR scorecard files and review packs
  • Determines forecasting support such as timely scheduling of forecasting calls with Contract Accountants and others, ensuring all revenue generated from change control have been included
  • Undertakes SRM management such as KPI and SLA setting, accuracy of change log, effective archiving of evidence
  • Undertakes cost validation: such as ensuring required documents are in place and studying these, mapping cost sources to revenue realised
  • Undertakes revenue assurance such as keeping an up –to-date commercial inventory, invoice reconciliation, validation of commercial clauses
  • Supports contract management organisation across several activities such as contract governance (CGRs), risk management / mitigation & obligations, customer support, debt, P&L management
  • Billing Management: ensures global billing accuracy and management of CBS for contracts
  • Debt Management: such as proactively managing invoices, so customer queries are managed in time and not stuck in aged debt

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Contract management experience.
  • Commercial/P&L ownership.
  • Senior stakeholder management.
  • Risk and governance management.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex contract terms.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Government or public sector contracts.
  • Telecommunications or technology services experience.
  • SC clearance or ability to obtain it.
  • Change control and SLA management experience.
