Due to the sensitive nature of this role, you will be required to undergo DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels/national-security-vetting-clearance-levels). An allowance of £5k per annum may be payable monthly while you hold this DV and continue to work in a role that requires that level of security clearance. The terms of this allowance will be made available if you are successful in being recruited into this role.

About The Role

This role is responsible for the commercial and operational management of a complex business function, ensuring effective financial control, governance, supplier performance, risk management, and business operations. The role acts as a central coordination point across multiple internal and external stakeholders, driving operational excellence, maintaining robust controls, and supporting delivery against business objectives.

The successful candidate will oversee a diverse portfolio of commercial, financial, contractual, and operational activities, ensuring compliance with governance frameworks, managing risk, controlling cost, and identifying opportunities for process improvement and efficiency. The role requires strong stakeholder management, commercial acumen, and the ability to operate effectively in a complex and evolving environment.

This job role can be based in Ipswich, Cheltenham, London or Manchester. Due to security requirements, this role requires you to be located on site during your working hours. Mon-Fri 37.5. DV Security Clearance is required. Must have lived in UK for 10+ years to obtain clearance.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead the day-to-day commercial and operational management of a defined business function, ensuring activities are delivered efficiently, accurately, and in line with agreed controls and governance requirements.
  • Manage financial activities including cost control, forecasting, reporting, budget inputs, payment governance, and performance analysis.
  • Act as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, developing effective working relationships and ensuring timely resolution of issues and escalations.
  • Maintain and continually improve operational processes, controls, governance frameworks, and reporting mechanisms to support business objectives.
  • Monitor and manage supplier and partner performance, ensuring contractual and commercial obligations are understood, controlled, and delivered effectively.

  • Proven experience within commercial operations, business management, contract management, supplier management, or a related discipline.
  • Strong commercial and financial awareness including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and reporting.
  • Experience managing complex processes, governance requirements, controls, and operational activities.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and build relationships across multiple levels of an organisation.

Required Skills (Desirable)

  • Experience working within complex, matrix, or multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Experience managing suppliers, partners, or third-party service providers.
  • Knowledge of process improvement methodologies and operational excellence principles.
  • Experience with financial management, business planning, or resource forecasting activities.
