About Us

VolkerLaser repairs, strengthens and waterproofs concrete and steel structures, offering a tailored package of specialist works to clients across the UK. Our structural solutions include bridge deck waterproofing, expansion joints, concrete repair and cathodic protection works, steel repair and strengthening work, carbon fibre and temporary works, jacking and bearing replacement. We also provide specialist lightweight decking and access solutions, as well as being specialists in long bridge and cable refurbishment.

About The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Contracts Manager to join the business. You will be responsible for the successful and sustainable delivery of projects within VolkerLaser, leading high-performing teams through visible leadership and clear communication. The role is accountable for ensuring safe, compliant project delivery, achieving financial targets, effective resource management, continuous improvement, and supporting the wider business strategy while maintaining strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Health & Safety without compromise to ensure health, safety, wellbeing and environmental policies and procedures are complied with and clearly communicated and cascaded across the projects
  • Ensuring appropriate resource management of the right people, in the right place, including for Subcontractor selection/management and training and development
  • Encourage and develop a right-first-time approach for all sectors of the business
  • Drive performance improvement in relation towards an accident and incident free workspace, instilling a culture of health and safety best practice by setting a personal example of visible leadership
  • Deliver business strategy and performance, ensuring operational activities and quality comply with business policies and procedures
  • Deliver margin targets in line with business plan objectives for the business unit / project
  • Full understanding of the working contracts, particularly any financial and contractual risks associated within, ensuring appropriate communication to senior leadership / commercial team at point of knowledge
  • Support pre-construction on tender submissions and financial reviews as required
  • Maintain and develop key customer, client and industry relationships
  • Identify opportunities for future growth and assist in securing work for maintaining a forward workload plan
  • Drive performance improvements and share best practices within the business
  • Effective management, coaching and development of all direct reports and drive full employee engagement
  • Positively performance manage delivery teams ensuring continued improvement is ‘built-in’
  • Maintain collaborative links into key suppliers and designers to maximise opportunities
  • Better Together – responsibility for skills and training to ensure the required level of self-delivery and management is available and that succession and development for the future is considered and planned.
  • Deliver the objectives of the business unit through in line with VolkerLaser’s overall values and culture

About You

  • Proven technical and project management abilities
  • Previous experience working in a similar position
  • Previous experience working on bridges, highways, and major infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in civil engineering
  • Strong organisational and management skills
  • Knowledge of the requirements and implementation of CDM regulations
  • Ability to produce Work Package Plans, Task Briefing Sheets, and implement safe systems of work
  • Technical qualification (example Degree in civil engineering or HND)
