About us
UCL is one of the world's top 10 universities, with more than 50,000 students, 16,000 staff and a turnover exceeding £2bn. With that scale comes an exciting and diverse range of commercial, research, education and innovation opportunities.
We're looking for a Contracts Manager (Revenue Generating) to join UCL's Legal Services team and provide practical contracting support to help colleagues progress those opportunities effectively. This role forms part of a newly established team focused on supporting UCL's revenue-generating activity.
As the team develops, the shape of the role and the mix of work are likely to evolve, so we're looking for someone who is comfortable working in a developing service, helping to shape processes and adapting as priorities change.
About the role
As Contracts Manager (Revenue Generating), you'll be the first point of contact for a portfolio of routine and moderately complex income-generating contracts, working closely with colleagues across Legal Services, Finance, Commercial & Procurement, Research & Innovation, faculties, departments and professional services.
You'll:
- Review, draft and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including consultancy, research and collaboration agreements, statements of work and services contracts, SaaS/software arrangements, and IP licences.
- Provide practical, commercially focused contract guidance that helps colleagues progress opportunities while protecting UCL's legal, financial, regulatory and reputational interests.
- Manage contracts from initial instruction through negotiation, execution and handover, keeping records accurate and stakeholders informed.
- Apply UCL's templates, playbooks and standard positions, identifying deviations and escalating novel, complex or higher-risk issues to Legal Counsel.
- Work collaboratively with specialist teams on areas including IP, data protection, tax, insurance, procurement and commercialisation.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of contract processes, templates, guidance and contract management systems.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About you
To do this job you'll need practical experience of reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial, research or other legal agreements. You'll be commercially minded, organised and collaborative, with the ability to explain complex contractual issues clearly to non-specialists, manage competing priorities and build positive working relationships with stakeholders.
Experience involving software, consultancy, research, services, data protection, IP or commercial collaborations will be particularly valuable.
If you enjoy finding practical ways through contractual challenges and want to support work with real institutional impact, we'd love to hear from you.
