Contracts / Operations Manager
SB Drain Services Ltd | Markyate, AL3 | Full-time | £45- 55k + Company car, bonus & benefits
At SB Drain Services our survey and remedial engineers fix the problems below ground. We need someone to run the works above ground. You'll sit at the centre of a small team and take each job from the first phone call to the finished work.
What your week actually looks like
No two days are the same. On Monday a CCTV survey might turn up a collapsed pipe, and by Tuesday you've quoted it, scheduled it and written the RAMS. On Wednesday a client calls in a panic and you rearrange the diary so they get seen. On Thursday a job turns out bigger than the survey showed, and you're talking it through with the engineer on site and agreeing a variation with the client. That's the role.
Day to day, you'll be:
- Taking enquiries. You'll be the first voice clients hear and the person who works out what they need.
- Quoting. You'll turn survey findings and site information into clear, accurate, profitable quotes, then follow them up.
- Scheduling. You'll plan the diary for our survey and remedial engineers, balancing urgent work, planned jobs, travel and the skills each job needs.
- Writing RAMS. You'll produce job-specific risk assessments and method statements that reflect what's really happening on site.
- Organising projects. Larger remedial jobs need materials, plant, access, permits and client updates, and you'll make sure nothing gets missed.
- Being the link. You'll keep clients informed and keep engineers supported, so there are no surprises on either side.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Why this role is different
This isn't a desk job with a rigid process manual. You'll get real autonomy to shape how the role works, from how we schedule to how we quote, and to make it your own. You'll work closely with our Head of Operations and our MD, who will back your decisions and want to hear your ideas. In a small team, what you do shows up straight away.
You'll be right for this if you:
- Are seriously organised and can juggle a full diary without dropping anything
- Can prioritise calmly when three things land at once
- Communicate well, whether you're reassuring a client, briefing an engineer or chasing a supplier
- Are comfortable putting prices together and standing behind them
- Take ownership and don't wait to be told what to do next
