Job Description:
Role Purpose
The Electrical Subject area SME provides experienced technical leadership across the bp-operated fleet and wider bp organisation. The role ensures safe, reliable and compliant operation of high-voltage (HV) marine power systems and oversees the management of operational technology cyber risks across bp Operated and Time-Chartered (OTC) vessels. The position delivers assurance that all operated vessels meet bp OMS and ISM requirements through structured self-verification and ship visits, while maintaining strong, collaborative engagement with all key partners.
Key Accountabilities
- Control & Automation Support — Provide electrical SME support to assigned vessels, leading proactive resolution of operational issues to maximise asset performance.
- OT Cyber Risk Management — Support implementation of bp’s OT cyber risk and digitalisation strategy, ensuring robust protection of vessel control systems and critical infrastructure.
- OMS Compliance — Maintain and lead company procedures, processes and guidance documents for accountable technical areas, ensuring alignment with bp and industry standards.
- Project & Contract Management — Lead assigned engineering projects and handle relevant contracts, including stewardship of approved annual budgets.
- CMMS & IT&M Assurance — Provide SME guidance to inspection, testing and maintenance requirements within the CMMS, and conduct regular self-verification to ensure compliance and ongoing relevance.
- Management of Change — Review and approve electrical subject area MoC submissions in accordance with OMS requirements.
- Industry Representation — Represent bp in approved industry bodies and actively chip in to the bp Community of Practice.

Education
Maritime electrical Certificate of Competency, electrical engineering degree, or Equivalent professional training and experience in marine electrical systems.
Experience & Job Requirements
- Marine electrical technical experience within shipping and/or ship construction or repair yards
- Expertise in HV marine/offshore power generation and distribution, including plant automation
- Demonstrated experience handling OT cyber risks in marine or offshore environments
- Membership of a recognised professional body (e.g., IET, IMarEST)
