A small, highly technical engineering business is looking for a Senior Electronic Controls Engineer to join its growing team, working on highly specialised, bespoke engineering projects for a range of demanding customers.
This is a hands-on role within a small engineering team, where you'll have real ownership of the control systems you develop. The projects are varied and technically challenging, and you'll need to be someone who enjoys solving problems, working things out for yourself and seeing a project through from concept to completion.
The business has built an excellent reputation for taking on complex engineering projects that require a high level of technical expertise and attention to detail. They're now looking for a Controls Engineer to replace a long-standing member of the team and play an important role in the continued growth of the business.
Software Control Systems Engineer - The Role
- Designing electrical and control systems for bespoke engineering products
- Programming PLCs using CODESYS
- Working with PLC, CNC, motion control and electronic drive systems
- Selecting and specifying appropriate electrical and control hardware
- Developing control solutions for complex, precision-engineered systems
- Supporting the build, testing and commissioning of electrical and control systems
- Working closely with the wider engineering team to integrate electrical, controls and mechanical systems
- Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues throughout development and commissioning
- Ensuring designs meet relevant product, machinery and safety regulations
- Supporting CE marking and other regional compliance requirements
- Maintaining accurate electrical designs, system documentation and component information
- Working with customers to understand technical requirements and develop suitable solutions
- Managing technical projects through to completion, working within agreed timescales and budgets
- Supporting and developing the technical knowledge of other members of the team

The next phase of development will also involve Keyence vision systems, so experience with machine vision would be highly advantageous.
This is a role for a hands-on engineer who gets things finished.
You'll need to be comfortable working independently, solving problems without having every answer given to you and using your own initiative when faced with something you've not encountered before.
Software Control Systems Engineer - The Person
- Strong experience in electronic controls / control systems
- Experience programming PLCs
- Experience with CODESYS would be particularly useful
- Experience working with CNC, motion control or electronic drives
- A good understanding of electrical control system design
- Experience taking systems through build, testing and commissioning
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, methodical approach
- The ability to work independently and take ownership of your work
- A natural curiosity and willingness to work things out rather than wait for someone else to provide the answer

They're ideally looking for an experienced engineer who can make an immediate contribution, but they're also open to engineers with around 2–3 years' relevant experience who have the right technical foundations and attitude.
