About Us

At National Gas, the work we do matters.

As Britain's national gas network, we help keep the lights on, businesses running, and homes warm by maintaining the critical infrastructure that transports gas across Great Britain. While providing the energy security Britain relies on today, we're also helping transform the network for a clean energy future.

Join us and help secure Britain's energy.

About The Role

We're looking for a Control Room Manager to lead the safe, secure and efficient real-time operation of the National Transmission System (NTS), ensuring the continued delivery of critical energy infrastructure across Great Britain.

This is a pivotal leadership role within our Gas System Operator function, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the NTS on a 24/7 basis. As one of the most senior operational leaders in the organisation, you'll make critical real-time decisions that support energy security, customer requirements and business performance.

Beyond day-to-day operations, you'll help shape the future of the control room by leading change programmes, strengthening operational resilience, developing high-performing teams and influencing the systems, processes and capabilities needed for long-term success.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading the safe, secure and efficient real-time operation of the National Transmission System, ensuring compliance with all safety, regulatory and commercial obligations.
  • Optimising real-time delivery of capital and maintenance plans while maintaining reliable network performance for customers.
  • Creating an environment where teams can make confident, auditable operational decisions during both normal operations and major incidents.
  • Leading and embedding change programmes affecting control room people, processes, systems and working practices.
  • Driving a strong safety culture and fostering continuous learning from incidents, near misses and operational events.
  • Ensuring control room readiness and resilience during emergency situations and business continuity events.
  • Representing National Gas with regulators, government agencies, customers, industry bodies and emergency responders following notable operational events.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
