Control Room Supervisor
The Control Room Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) from the control room.
Control Room Operator / MRF Shift Supervisor
- Salary: £42,500 per annum + overtime
- Working hours: Monday–Friday, 6:00am–4:00pm, with every other Saturday 6:00am–1:00pm
- Overtime paid: at time and a half
We are seeking an experienced and capable Control Room Operator / MRF Shift Supervisor to take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of a busy Material Recovery Facility. This is a key supervisory position requiring someone who can confidently lead a team, monitor plant performance, manage operational priorities, and work closely with the maintenance team to keep the facility running safely and efficiently.
The successful candidate will ideally have previous supervisory or management experience within a waste, recycling, manufacturing, production, or similar industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
As Control Room Operator / Shift Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the plant and leading a team of five operators.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Operating and monitoring the MRF control room and associated plant systems.
- Leading, supervising, and motivating a team of five employees to maintain high standards of safety, productivity, and performance.
- Planning and managing the workforce throughout the shift, including the effective re-deployment of staff during periods of plant downtime.
- Monitoring plant performance and identifying operational issues or potential failures at an early stage.
- Completing accurate daily check sheets, operational records, and relevant documentation.
- Recording plant faults and operational issues clearly and ensuring they are raised with the appropriate personnel.
- Working closely with the maintenance team, providing clear and accurate information regarding faults and potential mechanical issues.
- Supporting maintenance teams in diagnosing and resolving day-to-day plant problems wherever possible.
- Taking a proactive approach to troubleshooting and finding practical solutions to operational issues.
- Ensuring clear communication and effective handovers between operational, maintenance, and management teams.
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping, site presentation, and operational discipline.
- Ensuring all plant activities are carried out safely and in accordance with site procedures and company requirements.
- Identifying opportunities to improve plant performance, productivity, and efficiency.

About You
We are looking for a confident and proactive individual who is comfortable taking responsibility and making decisions in a fast-paced operational environment.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in a supervisory, team leader, or management position.
- Experience within waste management, recycling, manufacturing, production, or another industrial environment.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to confidently use control systems and standard computer software.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with operators, management, and maintenance teams.
- The ability to identify potential plant problems and communicate them effectively to maintenance before they develop into more significant issues.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to maintain accurate records and complete daily operational documentation.
- A practical approach to problem-solving, with the confidence to deal with issues as they arise.
- The ability to motivate and manage a team while maintaining high standards of performance and accountability.
- The flexibility and judgement to re-deploy staff effectively when operational circumstances change.
- A strong understanding of the importance of safety, plant availability, and productivity.

What We Offer
- £42,500 basic salary
- Monday–Friday, 6:00am–4:00pm
- Every other Saturday, 6:00am–1:00pm
- Overtime paid at time and a half
- A permanent position within a busy and growing MRF operation.

The Ideal Candidate
This position would suit an experienced MRF Supervisor, Control Room Operator, Shift Supervisor, Production Supervisor, Team Leader, or Assistant Manager who is looking to take the next step in their career.
We are looking for someone who is hands-on, commercially and operationally aware, technically minded, and confident in leading a team. Most importantly, you will be someone who takes ownership, communicates effectively, and is prepared to deal with problems rather than simply report them.
