Control Room Team Leader
Swindon
£79,677 + 15% shift allowance
Permanent Contract
Days & Nights shift
In this position, you’ll oversee the smooth running of our control room, ensuring our fleet is maintained, serviced, and cleaned to the highest standards. You’ll play a key role in keeping our trains on track and our passengers moving. What you’ll be doing
- Undertake the role of “Maintainer Control Room Contact” on a shift basis as set out in the TSA Contract.
- Responsible on a shift basis for the ongoing management of the Hitachi control room operations and support teams located in the operational control room.
- Management of fleet planning and all operational interfaces at the Great Western Integrated Control Centre. Co-ordinating the deployment of technical riding inspectors and station-based technicians.
- Line management, supervision, and support of the Maintenance Controllers and Technical Riding Inspectors.
- Working closely with the associated maintenance depots:
- Production of the short and long-term maintenance plan to ensure class 800 fleets are maintained, serviced, and cleaned in line with contractual requirements.
- Utilisation of Hitachi’s SAP Maintenance Management Systems.
- Planning all exams, servicing, and cleaning requirements back to the appointed depot.
- Monitoring fleet status using remote diagnostic data and planning train to depot accordingly.
- Planning fleet modification requirements back to depot to meet the required completion KPIs.
- Accountable for planning outstation attendance and rectification.
- Ensuring that any CBM requirements are planned back to depot to meet reliability targets.
- Recording and planning rectification of damage and vandalism as required.
- Proactive materials and staff planning in conjunction with the associated maintenance depots.
- Planning customer requirements such as the operator's performance improvement plan and CCTV data extraction.
- Adherence and management of the train performance regime.
- Availability of train fleet and utilisation of spare trains.
- Capturing in-service maintenance requirements and planning accordingly.
- Access and maintenance of records to include control room logs, maintenance management system, and remote train diagnostics.
- Recording of KPI failures on KPI scorecards through the associated IT Systems and control room log.
- Ensure the maintenance Controllers document and record all control room activities and processes required to support the customer passenger service.
- Develop professionally and support good working relationships with all stakeholders.
- Personal development plans for all direct reports.
- Learn new skills in accordance with Hitachi’s new business demands as required.
- Undertake competency assessment in line with the customers and Hitachi’s requirements.
- Liaise with Hitachi and external personnel as required to complete the duties of the post.
- Deputise for the Fleet Delivery Manager or Maintenance Controller as required.
- Other duties and instructed by the line manager.
- Other responsibilities relevant to the role based on localised requirements.

About you
Essential
Licences / Competences
- Sound knowledge of railway operations.
- Technical understanding of traction and rolling stock.
- Strong leadership and management experience.

Qualifications
- Vocational engineering qualifications and experience.
- Management training qualifications or equivalent experience.
Behavioural
- Sound knowledge of, and compliance to rules and regulations.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times.
- Good team worker and able to build relationships with other stakeholders.
Desirable
Licences / Competences
- Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel, Equinox.
- Previous experience of using Genius, Trust, P2, is desirable but not essential.
- Previous experience of working in operational railway control rooms would be advantageous.
