Controls Systems Engineer

This is a hands-on Controls Systems Engineer role within a specialist manufacturing environment, where you’ll take ownership of the control and safety systems behind automated machinery and production cells.

You’ll work closely with maintenance, production and engineering teams to solve problems and make practical improvements. You’ll have plenty of autonomy in the role, taking ownership of your area of expertise and having a genuine influence on the reliability and development of the company’s automation systems within a small, close-knit team.

Controls Systems Engineer - The Role:

  • Design, program, and commission PLCs & motion systems (Siemens TIA)
  • Robot Integration and Programming (ABB)
  • Develop and integrate functional safety systems (light curtains, scanners, safety PLCs)
  • Deliver SCADA/HMI solutions with alarms, diagnostics, and data acquisition
  • Lead automation projects from concept to handover
  • Troubleshoot faults, implement upgrades, and support production & maintenance teams

Controls Systems Engineer - The Person:

  • Proven experience as a Control Systems Engineer or in a similar automation engineering role.
  • Strong proficiency in PLC programming (Siemens TIA).
  • Hands-on experience with industrial automation systems, including SCADA, HMI, and overall control system architecture.
  • Solid background in manufacturing, engineering or industrial environments.

Based at the company’s Gloucestershire manufacturing facility, this is a genuinely site-based engineering role with no requirement for regular travel to customer sites for commissioning.

You’ll work from one location, taking ownership of the controls and automation systems on site and working closely with the engineering, maintenance and production teams. It offers the variety and technical challenge of controls engineering, combined with the stability of being based in one factory, Monday to Friday.

The role is approximately 37 hours per week, generally 7:30am–4:00pm, with an earlier finish on Fridays.

Located in Gloucestershire, this role would be commutable from Bristol, Gloucester, Ross-on-Wye, Newport and surrounding areas.
