PE Global is currently recruiting for a Controls Systems Engineer for a leading multi-national manufacturing client based in Peterlee.
This is an initial 12 month contract position based on site 5 days a week.
Rate is £22.61-£29.06ph PAYE or £30.55-£39.27ph Umbrella, depending on experience.
This position is responsible for supporting manufacturing controls systems, ensuring robust performance of production equipment through software support, diagnostics, machine tuning, and validation activities within a fast-paced factory environment.
Duties of the role/Responsibilities
- Deliver controls and software support for manufacturing operations
- Diagnose and resolve equipment control system issues to minimise downtime
- Support commissioning, testing, and tuning of production machinery
- Develop a clear understanding of production procedures, analyse them, and drive continuous improvement
- Execute software updates, fault finding, and system optimisation
- Support validation and performance verification activities
- Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing and maintenance teams
- Maintain accurate documentation of changes, testing, and issue resolution

Education/Experience
- Degree in Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline
- Experience in industrial control systems and automation
- Knowledge of embedded control systems
- Demonstrated capability in fault diagnosis and root cause analysis
- Experience with Off-Highway Trucks (OHT) or heavy machinery is highly advantageous
- Understanding of J1939 CAN/Ethernet communications, sensors, actuators, and real-time systems highly advantageous
- Strong technical problem-solving skills
- Hands-on approach within a manufacturing environment and a proving ground
- Effective communication and collaboration across teams
- Focus on quality, reliability, and continuous improvements
