Simulink Control Systems Engineer (Missiles / Aerospace)
We are seeking a hands-on Simulink Control Systems Engineer to design, model, and tune control laws for high-performance airborne platforms and missile systems.
With core flight dynamics modelling already established, this role focuses directly on control system design, algorithm tuning, and closed-loop performance validation within MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow. You will take established air vehicle parameters and engineer robust inner and outer loop control architectures to ensure vehicle stability and dynamic response.
Key Responsibilities
- Control Law Design: Develop, tune, and optimize control laws (PID, LQR, NDI, Gain Scheduling) for missiles, uncrewed air vehicles, or dynamic aerospace platforms.
- Simulink & Stateflow Execution: Architect control system models in Simulink and design mode-management logic using Stateflow.
- Closed-Loop Stability Analysis: Perform linear and non-linear stability analysis, phase/gain margin evaluations, and dynamic response assessments across the flight envelope.
- SIL / HIL Verification: Execute Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulations to verify control law performance against target specifications.
- Telemetry Data Integration: Analyse control system performance against simulated or live flight telemetry to refine gain parameters and resolve interface discrepancies.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Essential Requirements
- Expert MATLAB / Simulink / Stateflow: Daily commercial proficiency in constructing control algorithms, state logic, and simulation harnesses inside Simulink.
- Control Theory & Design: Proven track record applying classical and modern control methods (PID, LQR, pole placement, gain scheduling) to air vehicles or guided munitions.
- Aerospace / Guided Systems Domain: Background working on flight control systems, missile guidance/actuation, or high-maneuverability UAV platforms.
- Immediate or Short Availability: Maximum 1-month notice period (or immediate availability via contractor status) to support urgent project deadlines.
- UK Security Clearance: Active UK SC clearance or immediate eligibility for BPSS and MoD vetting.
