Mid-Level PLC / Controls Engineer
We are looking for a mid-level PLC / Controls Engineer with practical experience designing, building, commissioning, and supporting industrial automation systems.
The role will involve working on warehouse automation, conveyor and materials-handling projects, including PLC control, electrical panels, sensors, motors, and integration with higher-level software systems.
Essential Experience
- Good practical experience programming Siemens PLCs, particularly S7-1200 and/or S7-1500.
- Strong working knowledge of Siemens TIA Portal.
- Experience with other PLC platforms would be beneficial, such as Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Omron, or Schneider.
- Experience designing, building, wiring, or modifying industrial electrical control panels.
- Ability to read and understand electrical drawings and schematics.
- Experience with industrial sensors, photoelectric sensors, encoders, relays, contactors, motors, and VFDs.
- Experience fault-finding electrical and PLC-controlled equipment.
- Experience commissioning machinery or automation systems on customer sites.
- Understanding of industrial communications such as PROFINET, PROFIBUS, Modbus TCP, and Ethernet/IP.
- Experience working safely with industrial electrical systems and an understanding of machinery safety.

Desirable Experience
- Experience within warehouse automation, conveyors, sortation, robotics, manufacturing, or materials handling would be particularly useful.
- Knowledge of HMIs, Siemens WinCC, safety PLCs, remote I/O, servo/motion control, and integrating PLC systems with PCs, databases, WMS/WCS, or other software systems would also be advantageous.

Candidate Profile
We are looking for someone who is comfortable working independently but does not necessarily need to be a senior/lead controls engineer. They should be practical and hands-on, capable of programming a PLC, working inside a control panel, diagnosing faults, and commissioning equipment on site.
The role will involve a mixture of PLC development, electrical/control work, testing, commissioning, and customer-site support, so some UK travel will be required.
