The Opportunity
Discover are partnered with a specialist engineering business delivering complex control and automation solutions across critical UK infrastructure projects.
Following a recent acquisition and the award of several new projects, the business is looking to add a Control Systems Support Engineer to its growing engineering team.
This position will involve providing planned and reactive maintenance, technical support, fault finding and commissioning across client sites throughout the UK.
This is a hands-on controls role supporting PLC, SCADA, HMI and associated control systems, with a focus on system reliability, troubleshooting and minimising customer downtime.
Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and preventive maintenance on control systems and associated equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, PLC, SCADA, HMI and network-related faults.
- Provide reactive technical support to customers and respond to breakdowns.
- Support control system installation, testing and commissioning at client sites.
- Carry out pre-commissioning checks and troubleshoot issues during installation.
- Support system modifications, upgrades and performance improvements.
- Maintain accurate maintenance, fault and commissioning documentation.
- Ensure work complies with relevant safety standards, regulations and company procedures.
- Train and support customer personnel on system operation and basic fault finding.
- Assist with ordering and managing required hardware and materials.

Experience Required
We do not expect candidates to have experience across every area and the client will provide training where required. Ideally, you will have:
- Experience supporting, maintaining or commissioning industrial control systems.
- Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience with PLC systems and programming languages such as Ladder Logic or Structured Text.
- Familiarity with SCADA and HMI systems.
- Understanding of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus and Ethernet/IP.
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently at customer sites.
- Full UK driving licence.

On-call & travel
You will participate in the System Support on-call rota, typically 1 week out of the month.
This Includes
- Additional payment per on-call week.
- Additional payment for out-of-hours call-outs.
The role also requires UK travel, with night and weekend work.
