Description
Transport UK Rail Replacement is the UK’s largest rail replacement operator, providing full procurement and management services for vehicles, drivers, coordinators, supervisors and other resources when rail services are affected by planned engineering work, short-notice incidents or emergency disruption. Working closely with train operating companies and local control teams, we help keep passengers moving safely and reliably when rail replacement services are required.
We are looking for a proactive and customer-focused Controller to join our Rail Replacement team in Glasgow. This is a key operational role responsible for managing and coordinating planned and unplanned rail replacement activity, ensuring services are delivered safely, efficiently and professionally for our customers, operators and stakeholders.
As a Controller, you will play an important part in the day-to-day delivery of rail replacement operations, supporting live service requirements, liaising with operators and train operating companies, managing service updates and ensuring accurate handovers between shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily delivery of emergency and pre-planned rail replacement operations.
- Book on operators and coordinators, confirm readiness and monitor live operational activity.
- Respond promptly and professionally to requests from train operating companies by email, telephone and Teams.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
