About The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to register your interest in future Controls Engineer opportunities within organisations advancing automation, industrial systems, and control solutions. Roles of this type may sit within collaborative engineering teams where you could contribute to the design, implementation, and optimisation of control systems that power modern manufacturing, infrastructure, and industrial operations.

You would have scope to take ownership of defined control system workstreams, improve system performance, and collaborate with stakeholders across design, quality, and operations.

  • Day Rate: £250–£380 per day, dependent on experience and seniority

What You Would Do

Typical responsibilities could include:

  • Designing and implementing control systems using industry-standard platforms and protocols
  • Developing control logic, automation sequences, and system configurations
  • Collaborating with mechanical and electrical engineering teams on integrated solutions
  • Testing, commissioning, and optimising control systems for performance and reliability
  • Documenting control system designs, functionality, and operational procedures
  • Contributing to compliance with ISO 9001 and relevant technical standards
  • Supporting troubleshooting and continuous improvement of deployed systems
  • Liaising with stakeholders to understand control requirements and deliver solutions that meet operational needs

What You Could Bring

Most roles of this type require the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent professional qualification
  • Proven experience designing and implementing control systems
  • Working knowledge of control platforms, APIs, microservices, and distributed systems architectures
  • Proficiency in one or more programming or scripting languages (Python, Java, Bash, or equivalent)
  • Experience with version control, CI/CD pipelines, and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with industrial automation, SCADA, PLC programming, or similar control technologies
  • Strong understanding of system integration, data pipelines, and system reliability
  • Knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems
  • Excel proficiency for data analysis and reporting
  • Commitment to health and safety compliance (SMSTS, First Aid, HV certification considered advantageous)

Nice-to-have experience includes:

  • Cloud platform experience (Azure, AWS, GCP) and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform)
  • Exposure to SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC, or enterprise resource planning systems
  • Familiarity with process modelling (BPMN, UML) and quality management systems (QMS, QARA)
  • Experience with network security, DMZ architecture, or F5 load balancing
  • Data quality and analytics experience using tools such as Power BI
