Controls Engineer
We are looking to build our team with a Controls Engineer who can deliver automation solutions across our manufacturing operations. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative engineering environment where you could take ownership of control systems design, integration and optimization—working across PLC programming, SCADA systems and industrial automation platforms to improve process efficiency and reliability.

This is a contract opportunity based in Manchester, Greater Manchester, England, where you could contribute to the design, implementation and support of automation and control systems within a manufacturing environment. Roles of this type sit within technical teams that bridge engineering, operations and maintenance, with scope to influence how systems are configured and optimized to meet production targets and safety standards.

What You Would Do
Typical responsibilities could include:
- Designing and programming PLC and automation control systems for manufacturing processes
- Developing and maintaining SCADA interfaces and HMI applications to monitor and control operations
- Integrating control systems with enterprise platforms and data pipelines to support real-time process visibility
- Troubleshooting and optimizing existing automation systems to improve efficiency, uptime and safety compliance
- Collaborating with operations and maintenance teams to understand process requirements and deliver reliable solutions
- Documenting system designs, configurations and standard operating procedures in line with ISO 9001 and quality management standards
- Supporting system commissioning, testing and validation across manufacturing environments

What You Could Bring
Most roles of this type require the following:
Must-have
- Experience designing and programming PLC systems (Siemens, Allen-Bradley or equivalent platforms)
- Working knowledge of SCADA and HMI development
- Understanding of industrial automation concepts, control logic and process integration
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g. Ladder Logic, Structured Text, C#, Python or similar)
- Experience with Windows and Linux environments
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
- Right to work in the United Kingdom
Nice-to-have
- Familiarity with Azure, CI/CD pipelines or cloud-based control platforms
- Experience with data pipelines, SQL or analytics tools (Power BI)
- Knowledge of distributed systems, APIs or microservices architectures
- Exposure to SAP S/4HANA or ERP system integration
- SMSTS, First Aid or HV certification
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) or infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
