Job Description

We exclusively represent the global leader in material handling solutions spanning across several industries.

Specifically, we are currently representing their baggage handling business, and due to growth in the business, they are looking to secure an additional controls engineer to focus on their international project design and commissioning phases.

Responsibilities

  • Technical input to solutions at sales/tender stage, including assisting with estimating and the production of a concept solution
  • Review requirements and complete compliance matrices
  • Assist with the development and implementation of controls solution standards
  • Assist with the continuous development and improvement of the controls design framework
  • Technical project lead for allocated projects, and compiling and keeping up to date of project technical documentation, specifically the PMDR
  • Validation of design solutions against customer requirements, including document reviews, FAT & SAT witnessing
  • Guide and assist Controls Engineers with the development of PLC software and any other aspects of the delivery of a solution, including fault-finding when necessary
  • Ensure the seamless integration of the controls solution with the electrical, mechanical, IT and high level controls designs within the time scales dictated by the project delivery team and within the budgets determined at sales
  • Ensure a high quality of all deliverables, consistently driving the team to improve
  • Manage change and defects
  • Assist the Electrical & Controls Manager and Project Engineering Manager with department related tasks to continuously improve and deliver to business objectives
  • Occasionally act as Design Manager or Commissioning Manager on projects

  • Experience with the design, commissioning & troubleshooting of controls engineering-based systems
  • Experienced integrating into warehouse management systems/sort allocation computers would be an advantage, but not essential
  • Engineering degree or equivalent engineering qualification – or lesser qualification but with equivalent experience that can be assessed by an external body (e.g. IET)
  • Good electrical knowledge and experience
  • Extensive PLC hardware & software experience, Siemens PLCs is preferred but we will also consider Allen-Bradley and Schneider
  • Excellent ability to read drawings and software to interpret and troubleshoot designs
  • Good knowledge of SCADA systems and other high level control interfaces (e.g. SAC, Sorters, RFID, Scanners)
  • Understanding of current CDM regulations
  • Good Baggage Systems, Material Handling Systems or Intra Logistics experience
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills
  • Ability to travel and work on site
