Role Description
The Controls Engineer will design, develop, and implement control systems for robotics and automation equipment in an on-site manufacturing environment in the United Kingdom. Day-to-day responsibilities include configuring PLCs and motion controllers, integrating machine vision and AI-driven systems, and ensuring reliable communication between sensors, actuators, and industrial networks. The role involves creating and updating control logic, debugging and optimising system performance, commissioning equipment, and supporting troubleshooting and root cause analysis on production lines. The engineer will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to deliver robust automation solutions that meet safety, quality, and throughput requirements. This is a contract role.

Qualifications

- Strong skills in industrial control systems, including PLC programming, motion control, and HMI/SCADA configuration.
- Experience integrating robotics, machine vision, and automation equipment within complex production environments.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profinet) and field devices such as sensors and actuators.
- Familiarity with safety standards and regulations for industrial machinery, including risk assessment and functional safety practices.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and control schematics and collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting control systems on-site.
- Relevant engineering degree (e.g., Electrical, Mechatronics, Control, or Automation Engineering) or equivalent practical experience.
- Prior experience in factory automation or manufacturing environments; exposure to AI or machine vision applications is an advantage.
