Reporting to the Director of Engineering

We are seeking a motivated Controls and Software Validation Lead to join our in-house Engineering Team.

In this role, you will lead the capture and delivery of software requirements for our control systems across multiple marine and industrial projects, working with the Innovation and Workshop teams to code and test (via SIL, HIL and Flow-rig) all functionality prior to deployment onto customer applications. You will also support certification/approval activities related to our control system hardware and safety-related software features.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated background in mechanical or electrical engineering, software development, control systems or a related discipline (any risk analysis or safety-critical function experience is desirable, as is experience with Azure DevOps). It will be critical to be able to effectively liaise between multidisciplinary engineering/project teams and ensure requirements are clearly defined, implemented, tested, and verified.

This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate who thrives on innovation, problem solving and “closing the loop”. Over the past decade, the company has built a reputation for designing, manufacturing, and testing several world-first alternative fuel and propulsion systems, and continues to be at the forefront of low-carbon technology development. As part of our team, you will play a key role in delivering pioneering engineering solutions and fuel systems that help shape the future of sustainable transport and energy.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
