Harrison & Hetherington (H&H Group) is the UK's leading livestock marketing centre. We are recruiting a Cook to join our busy on-site café team at Borderway Mart, Rosehill, Carlisle.

Our café serves large numbers of breakfasts and lunches (up to 150 of each) to mart customers, along with refreshments and snacks for visitors and employees throughout the day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing and cooking hot and cold meals in a fast-paced café environment.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness across kitchen and food preparation areas.
  • Supporting menu planning with the Facilities Supervisor, in line with demand and budget.
  • Monitoring stock levels and liaising with the Facilities Supervisor to ensure value for money.
  • Working to the highest standards of food safety, health & safety, and food hygiene.
  • Reporting faulty appliances, damaged equipment/furniture, or any potential hazards to the Facilities Manager.
  • Assisting in the café/restaurant area as required, including taking orders, serving food and drinks, and handling payments.
  • Providing guidance to colleagues during service when needed.

Requirements

The successful applicant will:

  • Have experience cooking and preparing meals in a fast-paced catering environment.
  • Have good communication skills and a positive, customer-focused approach.
  • Be flexible, self-motivated and proactive when working as part of a team.
  • Be able to work quickly under pressure whilst remaining calm and polite.
  • Have an understanding of health and safety and food hygiene requirements within catering.
  • Be accurate with kitchen paperwork and record keeping.
  • Be able to store stock correctly and maintain stock rotation.

Whilst there would be some flexibility, we would be offering up to 35 hours per week, and this would include some weekend working, early morning starts and some long days.

A competitive rate of pay will be made available to the successful candidate.
