Care Home Cook

Ocean Living, Mumbles

£13.50 per hour | 22 hours per week | Permanent

Love cooking proper, home-cooked food but don’t fancy restaurant hours?

We’re looking for an experienced Cook to join our friendly team at Ocean Living, our small and welcoming care home in Mumbles.

You’ll be cooking for just 14 residents, which means this isn’t about producing hundreds of identical meals or working in a hectic commercial kitchen. You’ll get to know the people you’re cooking for, learn their favourite meals and make food that they genuinely look forward to.

And with mainly daytime hours, you can enjoy doing what you love without the late nights that often come with working in a kitchen.

What you’ll be doing

Working 22 hours per week, with shifts around 8:30am - 13:30pm, you’ll prepare nutritious, home-cooked meals for our residents and help make mealtimes an enjoyable part of their day.

Your role will include:

  • Preparing and cooking tasty, nutritious home-style meals
  • Catering for 14 residents and getting to know their individual likes and dislikes
  • Adapting meals for allergies, special diets and individual dietary needs
  • Helping to plan and adapt menus
  • Managing ingredients sensibly and working within the agreed food budget
  • Maintaining excellent standards of food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness
  • Keeping the kitchen organised, safe and running smoothly
  • Working alongside our care team to make sure residents have meals they enjoy

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What we’re looking for

Previous cooking experience is required for this role. You’ll need to be confident preparing and cooking meals independently and comfortable managing the day-to-day running of a kitchen.

You don’t necessarily need to have worked in a care home before. You might currently work in a pub, café, restaurant, school kitchen or another catering environment and be looking for something with more sociable hours.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • An experienced and confident cook
  • Reliable, organised and able to work independently
  • Comfortable catering for different dietary requirements
  • Knowledgeable about good food hygiene and safe kitchen practices
  • Happy to adapt meals around individual preferences and needs
  • Someone who genuinely takes pride in the food they put on the table

A Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification is preferred but not essential. Level 3 Food Hygiene and knowledge of HACCP would also be an advantage.
