The Coordinator: Community Perinatal Services
The Coordinator: Community Perinatal Services will coordinate and deliver a high-quality, trauma-informed service, offering specialist emotional and practical support to pregnant women and new mothers for up to 12 months post-birth. Women supported through this service are experiencing multiple disadvantage and live in the community, predominantly in the northeast London area.
This post is open to female applicants only as this is deemed a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) for this role under Schedule 9, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
Working closely with the Community Services Team, you will deliver bespoke support through home visits, remote contact and community groups, and will help women prepare for birth, navigate early parenting and access wider sources of support. You will also coordinate and support the volunteers who deliver the majority of our birth support service, including their recruitment, training and ongoing reflective practice.

The role involves regular attendance at meetings and community groups in London; occasional evening and weekend hours will also be required, by arrangement.

This is a varied, relationship-led role, ideal for someone with experience of supporting women through the perinatal period and of working with volunteers, who is passionate about trauma-informed, women-centred practice and wants to make a real difference to women facing multiple disadvantage in the community.
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with women and/or families experiencing disadvantage
- Experience of working with volunteers
- Experience of facilitating groups
- Experience of supporting women during the perinatal period
- Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the issues surrounding, and needs of, perinatal women facing multiple disadvantage
- Thorough knowledge of safeguarding practice, procedures and legislation
- Demonstrable understanding of and commitment to working in a trauma-informed way
- Understanding of and ability to maintain professional boundaries and maintain confidentiality
- Good presentation and communication skills
- Experience of managing a small budget
- Proficiency in the use of IT including Word, Excel, Outlook and databases for record keeping
- Ability to work flexibly including occasional evening and weekend hours − Ability to manage own workload and keep records
- Excellent understanding of cultural competency, diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism and anti-discriminatory practices
- Commitment to the work and vision of Birth Companions and willingness to carry out the policies and procedures of Birth Companions and to work to agreed guidelines and codes of conduct
- Able to travel to London for regular meetings
