COP8 / COP9 Tax Investigations Specialist
Location: London
Salary: £60,000-£70,000 + bonus
Working Pattern: Hybrid
A specialist Tax Investigations practice is looking for an experienced COP8 / COP9 Specialist to join its London team. The role will focus on handling a caseload of complex HMRC investigations, working directly with clients and HMRC to progress cases from initial enquiry through to resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of COP8 and COP9 investigations.
- Take ownership of cases from initial HMRC contact through to settlement.
- Deal directly with HMRC officers and respond to information requests.
- Prepare disclosures, reports, submissions, and correspondence.
- Review client records and financial information as part of investigations.
- Identify tax risks and potential liabilities.
- Assist with negotiations and settlements with HMRC.
- Advise clients throughout the investigation process.
- Keep cases progressing and ensure deadlines are met.
- Work closely with senior team members on particularly complex cases.

About You
- Experience handling COP8 and/or COP9 cases.
- Previous experience in HMRC investigations, tax disputes, or tax investigations practice.
- Strong understanding of HMRC investigation processes.
- Comfortable managing your own caseload and dealing directly with clients.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to analyse complex tax and financial information.
- Experience dealing with HMRC and progressing cases through to resolution.
