Assistant Manager

Salary: £34,000 - £38,000 + Bonus

Ready to take your next step towards General Manager?

If you're an experienced hospitality manager looking for a bigger challenge, a high-volume operation and a clear route to progression, the Blue Posts in St James's could be your next move.

Just a short walk from Green Park Station, we're a flagship Urban & Heritage site in the heart of Central London, surrounded by St James's Palace, Green Park and some of London's busiest streets.

And this isn't a quiet neighbourhood pub. With weekly sales of around £45–50k, a predominantly wet-led offer and a huge sporting following, we're a fast-paced, high-energy operation where no two shifts are the same.

Job Description

What's the opportunity?

As Assistant Manager, you'll play a key role in helping to run one of our biggest and busiest sites in the area.

Working closely with the General Manager, you'll be a visible leader on the floor — driving standards, developing the team and making sure our customers get an experience worth coming back for.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Supporting the General Manager in the day-to-day running of this high-volume Central London pub.
  • Taking ownership of shifts and confidently leading the team during busy services.
  • Coaching, developing and motivating the team to deliver consistently great hospitality.
  • Creating an energetic, welcoming atmosphere for both our regular customers and visitors to London.
  • Driving sales and maximising opportunities across our busy wet-led operation.
  • Leading from the front during major sporting events and peak trading periods.
  • Maintaining excellent standards across service, safety, cleanliness and compliance.
  • Helping deliver live music, sporting events and other occasions that bring the pub to life.
  • Building strong relationships with customers and becoming a familiar face within the local community.
  • Supporting the General Manager in driving the business forward and preparing yourself for your next career step.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

A pub where sport takes centre stage

Sport is a huge part of life at the Blue Posts.

With Sky Sports and TNT Sports, we're a benchmark venue for sporting trade, attracting customers who want to watch the big games in a lively Central London setting.

From major football fixtures to other sporting events, you'll need to understand what makes a great sports pub — and know how to lead your team when the volume and atmosphere step up.

We're also home to live music and regular events, making this one of the area's biggest and most exciting venues.

Qualifications

What we're looking for

This is an opportunity for someone who is ready to take their management career to the next level.

We're looking for:

  • Previous hospitality management experience — essential.
  • Experience working in a busy, high-volume pub, bar, restaurant or similar environment.
  • Experience managing large teams and leading busy shifts.
  • Confidence working in a fast-paced, predominantly wet-led operation.
  • A strong understanding of customer experience and what great hospitality looks like.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to spot opportunities to grow sales.
  • Confidence managing sporting events and busy peak periods.
  • A hands-on leadership style — you'll be working with your team, not from an office.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to motivate and develop people.
  • Ambition to progress towards a General Manager role.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone with energy, confidence and ambition — someone who wants to make their mark on a flagship venue and build a long-term career with Greene King.
