Join our team to update the text of our website before we hand it over to a designer
We are looking to make it sharper, punchier, and better for SEO. Our website is a key part of our digital presence and needs to be significantly improved, including making the text more accessible.
What difference will you make?
Chaffinch is still a relatively small charity with a modest annual turnover. Many will overlook us as being insignificant amongst the larger charities. However, Chaffinch has scope to make a very real difference to the children of Kibera but we are currently unable to achieve our potential due to a lack of experience and knowledge in some important fields. Finding the right volunteer for this role could mean the difference between a charity that helps a few young people and a charity that generates real opportunity and hope for children to build successful lives for themselves and future generations.
What are we looking for?
Our ideal volunteer will have several years' experience of copywriting or editing in either the business or non-profit field.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
The volunteer will need to be able to adhere to strict ethical guidelines and understand the reasons behind their implementation. It is vital that the volunteer portray the charity and its beneficiaries in a way that supports the overall aims and mission of Chaffinch. Therefore, a strong understanding of the charity's purpose is essential.
An interest in current international affairs and issues of international development would be helpful.
More than anything else, our ideal volunteer will have a passion for the work of Chaffinch with the children of Kibera.
We love to watch our volunteers grow even if that means growing beyond Chaffinch. We would hope that a volunteer in this role would gain just as much as they give.

What will you be doing?
We need an experienced volunteer (copywriter or editor) who loves getting stuck into a challenge.
Chaffinch has an SEO expert on board who works to determine the key words and phrases that are needed on each web page but we desperately need someone to put that advice into action.

This role involves reviewing each page of our website, determining whether any pages are superfluous, and then creating text that is really impactful. Currently we have too many words for the attention span of our average visitor.
We have a shared folder on a NAS where we upload our thoughts and plans to collaborate as a team and we can also meet on Zoom or similar to discuss the work.
This is a task-limited role but could lead to further volunteering if you so desire. We are happy to provide evidence of volunteering and references.
We would hope that our perfect volunteer will work well within a team and with the charity's CEO, and not be afraid to speak up and join in with decision-making.
We are looking for someone who can work independently but also collaborate well with a small team.
We are a small and friendly charity expecting effort rather than perfection!
