The role

The Core Infrastructure Engineering team owns and operates the foundational services that G-Research engineers rely on every day, from infrastructure automation and CI tooling to the platforms that keep the business running.

As the Infrastructure Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of infrastructure engineers, setting technical direction while ensuring the delivery of reliable, well-automated services. This is a leadership-first role with meaningful technical involvement. You will stay close to the technology to guide architectural decisions and unblock your team, while focusing most of your time on leadership, delivery and stakeholder engagement.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Leading, developing and growing a team of infrastructure engineers
  • Setting technical direction and priorities across the team's service portfolio, including TFE, Active Directory, Jenkins, inventory tooling and Bastion Hosts
  • Driving infrastructure as code adoption and the evolution of AI-driven infrastructure management
  • Ensuring the availability, performance and operational health of core services
  • Acting as the escalation point for critical incidents and service issues
  • Balancing operational delivery with long-term improvements and automation initiatives
  • Hiring, onboarding and developing new team members
  • Representing the team's roadmap and capabilities to stakeholders across the business
  • Removing blockers, managing dependencies and enabling effective delivery
  • Working with stakeholders to deliver robust, scalable automation solutions
  • Improving engineering processes, documentation and standards across the team

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Proven experience managing infrastructure or platform engineering teams
  • Strong technical background in Windows and Linux infrastructure
  • Understanding of CI platforms, infrastructure as code and infrastructure automation
  • Ability to balance people management, technical decisions and stakeholder communication
  • Experience improving operational processes, including incident management, change control and on-call practices
  • Track record of coaching and developing engineers
  • Clear, pragmatic communication style with ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences

Desirable experience:

  • Experience with inventory or CMDB platforms, Terraform Enterprise, vendor management or service management frameworks
