Core Python Developer – Algorithmic Trading (Digital Assets)

Location: Central London (hybrid – flexible on WFH days and hours; fully remote not available)

Work authorization: UK work permits sponsored; relocation support available

About the firm:

My client is a technology-driven algorithmic trading firm and one of the largest players in digital asset markets globally. They provide liquidity across the majority of cryptocurrency exchanges and trading platforms, run a broad range of OTC trading solutions, and support blockchain projects and traditional financial institutions as they move into crypto. They also run a venture arm that invests in early-stage DeFi projects. Having been founded in the crypto-native era and successfully navigated multiple market cycles, my client blends the technology standards and rigor of high-frequency trading firms from traditional markets with the entrepreneurial, fast-moving culture of a technology startup. They take a long-term, conviction-led view of the digital asset space and are positioning themselves as a leader in building a compliant, innovative market infrastructure.

The role:

My client is looking for a Python Developer to join their Core Development team. This is a small, highly efficient team with a broad mandate spanning many areas of the business, making it an ideal fit for someone pragmatic, genuinely passionate about their craft, and capable of writing clean, concise code. Neither crypto nor finance experience is required - the client cares far more about technical ability and mindset than domain background. Strong interpersonal skills matter too, as you'll work closely with traders, C++ developers, middle office, quantitative researchers, and the DeFi team across a variety of projects.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Most services are written in Python, with high-performance infrastructure in C++; both are typically kept on the most recent versions. The stack runs on Linux throughout, with PostgreSQL for databases and a number of bespoke in-house solutions built to solve problems specific to high-frequency trading.

Example projects you could work on:

  • Capturing data on the firm's own trading activity across a large number of exchanges, and exposing this to internal systems and users
  • A reconciliation system matching trade and transfer information to produce real-time positions, alerts and reports
  • The GUI used by traders for their day-to-day activities
  • An automated settlement system for balances with counterparties trading directly with the firm rather than through exchanges
  • A storage system used by quants for machine learning features
