Job Description: Coroner's Officer
Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council
We are looking for a committed, professional and compassionate individual to join our team as a Coroner's Officer. This is a challenging and rewarding role at the heart of the coronial service, supporting HM Coroners in the investigation of deaths reported to the Coroner.

Responsibilities
As a Coroner's Officer, you will:
- Manage a diverse caseload of investigations
- Liaise with bereaved families, medical professionals, police, legal representatives and other partner agencies
- Ensure that investigations are progressed professionally, sensitively and within statutory timescales
- Gather and assess information
- Prepare cases for inquest
- Support court hearings, including jury inquests where required

Requirements
The successful candidate will possess:
- Excellent communication, organisational and ICT skills
- The ability to analyse information, make sound decisions and manage sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism
Essential Requirements:
- GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English and Maths
- Medical, legal knowledge for experience of working within a coroner’s service or other relevant bereavement related service
- Experience of using ICT applications including MS office packages
Additional Information
This is a permanent full-time role, with standard working hours of 37 hours per week.
Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is the Relevant Authority for the Black Country Coroners Service, covering the boroughs of Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton.
