LOCATION: Central London (Regent's Place, NW1) Hybrid – 4 days in office

THE ROLE

In this fixed-term maternity cover role, you will lead corporate and internal communications for British Land during an important period for the business, helping to tell a clear and compelling story about our strategy, performance, places and people.

You will work closely with the Head of Corporate Affairs, Digital Communications Lead, Communications Manager, Head of Marketing, Executive Committee, Leadership Team, colleagues across the business and agency partners to deliver proactive media engagement, high-quality content, leadership communications as well as milestone and day-to-day internal communications.

The role offers significant visibility and variety, from supporting financial and corporate communications, sustainability and asset-led storytelling, through to helping colleagues understand key priorities and change.

You will help shape how British Land is understood by external audiences and how colleagues connect with our strategy and culture.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced communications professional who enjoys combining strategic judgement with hands-on delivery in a fast-paced listed business.


What You’ll Do

  • Lead and deliver corporate communications activity that clearly articulates British Land's strategy, financial performance, growth priorities and market positioning.
  • Plan and implement proactive media activity across priority themes, including Retail Parks, Campuses, sustainability, asset management, development management and leasing.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with business, property and sector journalists, identifying opportunities for positive coverage and informed market commentary.
  • Act as an initial point of contact for selected media enquiries and respond to issues or high-pressure situations.
  • Support senior leaders with media engagement, opinion pieces, interviews, briefing materials and key messages, ensuring consistent and confident external positioning.
  • Create, edit and manage high-quality written content for external, internal and digital channels, ensuring messages are clear, accurate and tailored to the audience.
  • Lead effective internal communications for major business moments, including financial results, leadership updates, strategic priorities and change programmes, including the integration of British Land’s new CEO.
  • Develop and deliver day-to-day internal communications content across channels including the intranet, newsletters, internal emails, town halls and staff meetings.
  • Advise senior stakeholders on how best to communicate with colleagues, ensuring key messages land with clarity, context and a clear connection to business priorities.
  • Work collaboratively with Marketing, Investor Relations, Sustainability, Development, Asset Management, Investment, Legal and HR to align messaging and maximise impact.
  • Manage day-to-day PR agency relationships, budgets, timelines and outputs, ensuring activity is prioritised, efficient and aligned to measurable business outcomes.
  • Monitor and evaluate communications activity, using insight and feedback to refine plans, demonstrate impact and improve the effectiveness of future work.

Essential Experience And Skills

  • Significant experience in corporate communications or financial PR, ideally gained in a listed company, complex B2B organisation or agency environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to turn complex strategic, financial or operational information into clear, engaging content.
  • Strong understanding of the business media landscape and experience handling media enquiries, briefing journalists and supporting spokesperson activity.
  • Experience advising senior leaders and producing high-quality materials, including briefing notes, messages, announcements and presentations.
  • Proven ability to lead internal communications around business-critical moments, change, employee engagement and leadership visibility.
  • Strong planning, organisational and project management skills, with experience managing budgets, agencies, priorities and deadlines.
  • Sound judgement, accuracy and attention to detail, with the ability to remain calm, pragmatic and confidential in sensitive or fast-moving situations.

Desirable Experience

  • Listed company, real estate, corporate affairs or financial communications experience would be an advantage.
  • Experience communicating sustainability, asset performance, leasing, development or partnership stories would be helpful.
  • Comfort using insight and metrics to improve outcomes and demonstrate the team’s impact.
