Job Description

We're looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Communications Apprentice to join the Smiths Corporate Communications team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of communication disciplines, helping to shape how Smiths engages employees, customers, future talent and external audiences around the world.

You'll support projects spanning brand, digital, internal communications, content creation and more, while developing valuable skills in strategic communication, stakeholder management and project delivery / management.

Alongside this you will be completing the Level Four Public Relations and Communications Assistant apprenticeship with PA Media Academy.

Key Responsibilities

Project management and brand

  • Support the delivery of brand-related projects, including the ongoing refresh of Smiths divisional brands.
  • Help engage and coordinate stakeholders, timelines and approvals across multiple workstreams.
  • Assist in maintaining brand consistency across communications and digital channels.

Digital & social channels

  • Assist with maintaining and updating Smiths.com.
  • Assist with running Smiths social channels including our LinkedIn page.
  • Support the publishing of press releases, news stories and insight articles.

Corporate communications

  • Support the development of content for internal and external audiences.
  • Assist with drafting articles, announcements, presentations, internal communications and digital content.
  • Help communicate the Smiths strategy, performance and growth story in an engaging and accessible way.

Employer brand and STEM engagement

  • Support initiatives that position Smiths as a leading engineering company and STEM employer.
  • Assist with content and campaigns that showcase careers, innovation and employee stories.
  • Assist with Smiths Foundation communications showcasing the growing impact of the Foundation.

Employee engagement and internal communications

  • Help deliver employee communication campaigns, recognition programmes and engagement initiatives.
  • Support global events, town halls, competitions and employee storytelling activities.
  • Contribute ideas that help strengthen pride, advocacy and connection across Smiths.

Team and operational support

  • Provide administrative and project support to the Communications team.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Group and divisions.
  • Contribute positively to a high-performing, creative and supportive team culture.

Qualifications

Skills and Experience

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Positive, proactive and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Comfortable working with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Strong team player with a willingness to learn.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Friendly, professional and confident communicator.
  • Interest in corporate communications, media, journalism, marketing, digital or public relations.
  • Experience of creating content for social media, websites or newsletters desirable.

Additional information

  • Travel and overnight stays will be required (in London).
  • Must be available to attend assessment centre dates on either 19th or 20th October.
