Amazon's Legal Department is looking for an attorney to join our sustainability, ESG, and product safety compliance legal team supporting Amazon Web Services (AWS).
AWS provides cloud computing services and IT infrastructure to public and private sector customers around the globe, including on-demand compute capacity, data storage, AI, machine learning, and more. The role is part of a global legal team responsible for counseling AWS on a broad range of sustainability, regulatory advocacy, product compliance, environmental, health and safety, and trade issues across AWS’s diverse array of infrastructure hardware supply chains, data center footprint, and global customer base.
This role will advise on strategic projects and programs, working directly with business functions including sustainability (carbon, water, energy efficiency, human rights, circular economy); customer sales; supply chain; engineering; product compliance; and data center operations. You will support innovative AWS customer-facing sustainability programs as well as compliance with ESG procurement regulations. You will navigate rapidly evolving regulatory landscapes spanning multiple legal systems, deliver strategic legal counsel on hardware deployments, and collaborate with public policy experts to develop creative solutions to emerging regulations. You will provide day-to-day guidance on ESG issues in transactions, and advise on trends including in new areas of law.

This position will be located in London, UK. Our lawyers value working alongside and in person with their business clients and local legal teams to solve a constant flow of novel challenges in a growing and exciting business.
Key job responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel and support for sustainability, hardware product compliance and similar regulatory matters in Europe, Middle East, and Africa
- Advise on global regulations attaching to sustainability reporting; the manufacture, sale, distribution, use, handling, and disposition of hardware products; or chemicals regulation
- Develop innovative and scalable ESG contracting and compliance solutions
- Research and analyse evolving regulatory landscapes, communicating complex legal implications to business stakeholders
- Support regulatory engagements and provide strategic input on legal and business decisions
- Manage multiple complex legal matters simultaneously with precision and creativity

About the team
Our AWS Sustainability and Product Safety Compliance Legal team is a close, collaborative group dedicated to pioneering legal solutions across AWS’s global business. We work at the intersection of technology, law, and global strategy, supporting AWS's mission to transform how businesses leverage cloud technologies worldwide. Your expertise will be crucial in helping us navigate the intricate regulatory environments of emerging technologies.
Basic Qualifications:
- License to practice law in Europe, US or other common law jurisdiction
- Significant legal experience with a minimum of 5+ years of post-qualification experience
- Experience providing legal counsel and support for sustainability, hardware product compliance, environmental, or similar regulatory matters
- Experience with global regulations attaching to sustainability reporting; the manufacture, sale, distribution, use, handling, and disposition of hardware products; or chemicals regulation
- Experience navigating bespoke provisions within transactions
- Demonstrated capability to work independently and make decisive legal recommendations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to provide practical legal guidance in fast-paced, ambiguous environments

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in-house work
- Experience in the technology sector
