I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The position will be particularly suited to a commercially minded M&A professional who enjoys working in an entrepreneurial environment and building relationships with business owners. While strong financial and analytical skills are important, this is not a purely execution-focused role; the successful candidate will have significant scope to originate opportunities, develop relationships and influence the Group’s broader growth strategy.
The role will involve regular international travel, including across Europe and Australia, to meet prospective acquisition targets and management teams.
You Will Have
- 4–6 years’ experience in investment banking, corporate development, strategy consulting or a similar M&A-focused environment.
- Strong understanding of the M&A process, with experience across target identification, valuation, due diligence, negotiations and transaction execution.
- A genuinely commercial, relationship-led M&A role, with involvement across origination, evaluation and execution.
- Excellent relationship-building and communication skills, with the confidence to engage directly with founders, shareholders and senior management teams.
- A polished, personable and highly credible communication style, with the maturity to represent the Group with senior external stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel internationally, including across Europe and Australia, as required
