Overview
Buckinghamshire is one of England's largest and most diverse unitary authorities, combining thriving market towns, rural communities and significant areas of growth and development. Home to more than half a million residents, we are a council with big ambitions for our residents, communities and workforce.
We are proud of our strong sense of place. Buckinghamshire offers an exceptional quality of life, excellent schools, a vibrant economy, outstanding countryside and strong transport links to London, Oxford, Milton Keynes and beyond. It is a place where people choose to live, work and raise families.
At Buckinghamshire Council, our ambition is simple: to improve the lives of our residents and create stronger, healthier and more prosperous communities. Children and young people are at the heart of that ambition.
Children's Services plays a critical role in shaping the future of Buckinghamshire. Working alongside schools, health partners, the voluntary sector, police and communities, we are committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to be safe, thrive and achieve their potential.
We know that the challenges facing children and families are becoming increasingly complex. That's why we are focused on delivering excellent services while continuing to innovate, improve and strengthen our partnerships across the county.
About Us
Buckinghamshire Council is entering an exciting new phase in its development. Under the leadership of our new Chief Executive, we are building on strong foundations while creating a culture that is increasingly focused on empowerment, accountability, innovation and continuous improvement.
We want talented leaders who are prepared to challenge convention, think creatively and work collaboratively to solve problems. We are creating an environment where decisions are taken at the right level, where people feel trusted to lead, and where innovation is encouraged and supported.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
