Starting salary for this position is £48,264 per annum (plus contributory pension)
About MAG
MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.
About the role
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and values driven Corporate Finance Manager join MAG’s Corporate Finance team and contribute to our global mission. Reporting to the Head of Corporate Finance, you will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial processing, robust reporting, and strong internal controls. In this position, you will deliver the reliable financial insights necessary to drive strategic, data-informed organisational decision-making across our global network.
You will hold key operational responsibilities, managing payroll, purchase and sales ledgers, and cash and bank administration with precision and efficiency. Additionally, you will serve as a central point of contact for internal and external stakeholders—including suppliers, banks, and payroll providers—to resolve queries and provide the critical financial support that enables MAG’s vital operations worldwide.
Responsibilities
Statutory Accounts & Compliance
- End-to-End Statutory Accounts: Lead the production, scheduling, and external audit liaison for MAG’s UK annual statutory accounts to ensure timely signing.
- International & Donor Compliance: Supervise compliance accounts for overseas programmes and support the collation of HQ samples for donor audits.
- Financial Policies: Support the development, communication, and enforcement of robust internal financial policies and controls.

Financial Control
- Month-End & Ledger Oversight: Oversee the month-end closure process, balance sheet reconciliations, and the accounts payable/receivable functions.
- Banking, Payments & Tax: Authorise supplier payments, manage global programme fund transfers, and control quarterly VAT submissions.
- Planning & Optimization: Support monthly management accounts and the HQ Annual Business Plan while driving continuous process and control improvements.
Treasury Management
- Cash & FX Forecasting: Assist in producing periodic cash forecasts, working capital reports, and schedules for future currency trades.
- Foreign Exchange Accounting: Manage the financial impact of FX fluctuations, including the regular revaluation of balance sheet accounts.
- Liquidity & Investment: Monitor organizational cash balances to maximize short-term deposit income while maintaining required liquidity parameters.
Staff Management
- Team Leadership & Planning: Plan, prioritize, and communicate workloads for the Corporate Finance team to ensure high-quality, timely delivery.
- Talent Development: Manage, motivate, and mentor team members by identifying training needs and supporting professional growth.
- Process Efficiency: Cultivate a continuous improvement mindset within the team to optimize daily operations and add value to MAG.

We’re looking for:
Professional Experience & Expertise
- Charity Finance & Audit: Background in preparing Charity SORP statutory accounts, management accounts, and business plans, alongside direct experience managing external audits.
- Systems, Currency & Tax: Expertise in complex, multi-currency transaction accounting, treasury cash flow management, and UK VAT legislation using advanced systems and Excel.
- Team Leadership: A proven track record of managing, training, and motivating a part-qualified accounts team to consistently meet tight deadlines.
Core Capabilities & Attributes
- Problem Solving & Controls: Strong technical accounting skills to design efficient financial workflows, solve complex issues, and implement robust internal controls.
- Communication & Relationships: Ability to translate complex financial information clearly for non-finance staff and build strong professional relationships at all levels.
- Proactive & Mission-Driven: A self-motivated, detail-oriented approach with the adaptability to work independently and a genuine commitment to MAG’s humanitarian mission.
