Are you an experienced governance professional ready to influence decision-making at the highest levels of the NHS?

We are seeking two Corporate Governance Managers for GWH & RUH to lead corporate governance within one of our Care Organisations.

Working closely with senior leaders, you will provide expert advice on governance, assurance, risk, regulatory compliance, and Board-level decision-making, ensuring the organisation operates to the highest standards of transparency, accountability and effectiveness.

We are looking for two individuals, one for GWH and one for RUH. Please document in your CV or supporting information which you are applying for.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a professional governance and secretariat function, shape governance frameworks, support regulatory readiness, and play a key role in delivering the ambitions of the BSW Hospitals Group.

We are looking for a highly credible individual with significant experience in corporate governance, excellent relationship-building skills, and the ability to navigate complex organisational environments with confidence and integrity.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

The Corporate Governance Manager is the senior professional lead for all aspects of corporate governance at Care Organisation level within the BSW Hospitals Group governance framework. The postholder is responsible for ensuring that the Care Organisation operates to the highest standards of governance, assurance, compliance, and decision-making, aligned to Group policies, NHS Codes of Governance, and statutory and regulatory requirements.

Person specification

Knowledge, Training and Experience

Essential criteria

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g. law, governance, public administration, healthcare management) or equivalent senior-level experience — essential.
  • Substantial senior experience in corporate governance within a complex organisation, NHS or wider public sector preferred — essential.
  • Evidence of continued professional development in governance, risk or regulatory practice — essential.
  • Demonstrable success in leading governance frameworks, committee administration and assurance reporting cycles to Board level — essential.
  • Experience of operating within a Foundation Trust or Group/system environment and understanding of NHS statutory and regulatory frameworks (NHS Act 2006, Health & Care Act 2022, NHS Codes of Governance, CQC Well-Led) — essential.
  • Experience of leading policy management (registers, review cycles, approvals, dissemination, compliance) — essential.
  • Experience of supporting Board Assurance Framework (BAF) production and risk management processes — essential.
  • Experience of managing and developing high-performing administrative and governance teams — essential.
  • Experience of working credibly with senior leaders, regulators (CQC, NHSE) and external partners — essential.
  • Expert understanding of corporate governance principles and statutory and regulatory requirements applicable to NHS Foundation Trusts and Group operating models.

  • Chartered Governance qualification (CGI/ICSA) or equivalent — desirable.
  • Experience of supporting Council of Governors and Foundation Trust membership activity — desirable.
