As our Corporate Health & Safety Advisor, you’ll lead on safety standards across Kensington and Chelsea – playing a pivotal role in protecting our workforce and local communities. It’s a chance to take hands-on ownership, share your expert guidance, and ensure our services operate safely, competently, and responsibly every day.
Working Style
You’ll be based in the Borough for 3 days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you’re working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you’ll be part of a dedicated team helping to protect residents and staff.
What You’ll Be Doing
As our subject matter expert, your main focus will be providing independent advice and leadership across multiple council directorates. You’ll work closely with senior leaders, managers, and operational teams to champion our health and safety strategy, developing practical initiatives that raise standards across every service.
A key part of your role will involve leading comprehensive audits, assurance programmes, and risk assessments to ensure we comply with statutory legislation and internal policies. You’ll also lend your technical expertise to major projects, construction works, and procurement, ensuring full compliance with CDM Regulations 2015.
When incidents happen, you’ll lead thorough investigations to establish root causes and prevent recurrence, offering clear advice on regulatory compliance and corporate manslaughter legislation. Through coaching, mentoring, and active engagement with external enforcement bodies like the HSE, you’ll build safety capability across the organisation and interpret performance data to guide continuous improvement.

What You’ll Bring
You’ll hold a NEBOSH Certificate (or an equivalent qualification or apprenticeship) alongside active membership in a recognised professional body such as IOSH or IIRSM. You bring substantial experience delivering occupational health and safety advice within a large, multi-disciplinary organisation, supported by a deep understanding of safety management systems, auditing, and statutory compliance standards like asbestos, water hygiene, fire safety, and contractor management.
You’re a clear, confident communicator who knows how to translate complex legal and technical requirements into practical, understandable guidance for any audience. With excellent influencing, coaching, and mentoring skills, you know how to build capability and encourage continuous improvement across different teams.

Employees receive annual salary increases until they reach the top of the pay scale. In addition, employees will receive any agreed cost of living pay rises.
