The Role
HII has an exciting opportunity for a Corporate Manager Communications 2 - Employee Experience & Enterprise Strategy! The ideal candidate may work out of either our Corporate office in Arlington, VA, or Newport News, VA.
At HII, we’re evolving how communications works across our enterprise — creating a more connected, strategic and modern employee experience across a complex organization supporting critical national security. We’re seeking a Communications Manager to help lead enterprise employee communications strategy, audience engagement, channel effectiveness and innovation initiatives.
The ideal candidate is equal parts strategist, storyteller, operator and innovator — someone who enjoys building structure from complexity, improving how organizations communicate, and experimenting with new approaches that scale.
What You’ll Do
Enterprise Employee Communications Strategy
- Help shape and execute enterprise-wide employee communications strategies aligned to company priorities
- Partner across communications, HR, benefits, IT and business functions to deliver clear, coordinated and employee-centered messaging
- Support large-scale enterprise initiatives and “moments that matter,” including benefits, wellbeing, culture and transformation efforts

Employee Experience & Engagement
- Help improve how employees experience communications across channels and touchpoints
- Develop audience segmentation and targeting approaches to reduce noise and improve relevance
- Create communication frameworks that simplify complex topics and improve understanding
Channel Strategy & Optimization
- Support strategy and governance for enterprise communication channels, including a modern intranet and digital employee experience ecosystem
- Evaluate channel effectiveness and recommend improvements based on employee behaviors and business needs
- Help shape editorial planning and content prioritization across a decentralized communications environment
- Partner across functions and enterprise to improve how employees access, discover and engage with information across digital and frontline communication channels
Insights, Analytics & Measurement
- Develop meaningful measurement approaches beyond opens and clicks
- Analyze engagement trends and communication effectiveness
- Translate data and employee feedback into actionable recommendations
Innovation & AI Enablement
- Support adoption of modern communications tools and AI-enabled workflows
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, personalization and employee experience through technology
- Pilot and scale new approaches, tools and content formats across the communications function
Must Have
- Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience in communications, employee communications, employee experience, change communications; OR Master’s Degree and 4 years of relevant experience
Nice to Have
- Strong strategic thinking and project leadership skills
- Excellent writing and storytelling capabilities across multiple audiences and formats
- Experience managing complex communication initiatives across large organizations
- Curiosity and comfort experimenting with new technologies and ways of working
- Familiarity with communications metrics, audience insights and channel strategy
- Collaborative mindset with strong executive presence and relationship-building skills
- Experience supporting communications across complex, decentralized organizations
- A modern approach to digital employee experience, including intranet strategy and channel optimization
- The ability to engage both desked and deskless employee populations through thoughtful audience segmentation and communication design
- Curiosity around emerging technologies and AI-enabled communications and processes
